Bill,
As usual, we enjoyed your show last night. You had quite an interesting
crowd, including the legendary Bobby Sanabria. A great bunch of Nuyoricans
with a few token Dominicanos, including my husband. We have enjoyed your
work for many years and so have my students at Brooklyn College after you
graciously sent me a DVD of your Comedy Central Show on TV. It is the last
class of my Hispanic Linguistics class and they love it.
My suggestion to publish more books on Spanglish from a comedy/language
perspective also comes with an offer of help. Maybe even a play, like
Dolores Prida in Botanica. I have published many books on several topics
including US Latino writing ( one was on the shelves at the bookstore
yesterday, The Latino Reader), and would be happy to help you with editing
or any other writing questions. At the end of this year I'll be retiring
from teaching after 37 years at Brooklyn College and we're moving to
northern California. Our only child, a daughter, moved to LA in January and
so the idea is "what the hell are we doing in NYC"? It's time to go. Of
course, we could also relate to your comments about having a daughter. We
waited 9 years after we got married to finally decide to have a child and
I'm glad we did. Parenthood is great but the fun is definitely over once
they arrive.
We wish you much continued success and you might consider a new agent who
can get you the kind of paid exposure you need. For me, you're a Puerto
Rican combination of Lenny Bruce and Dick Van Dyke with salsa. Suerte con
todo.
